How Does NerveMind CGOS Work?
A technical product walkthrough of pre-execution evaluation, authorization outcomes, and governance evidence.
NerveMind CGOS works by placing a governance control plane on AI execution pathways so requests can be evaluated before models run, tools fire, or data leaves an approved boundary.
In short: assemble context → evaluate policy and authority → allow, constrain, escalate, or block → retain evidence. Observability alone happens after the fact; CGOS is designed for adjudication before execution on governed paths.
Direct answer
NerveMind CGOS intercepts governed AI-bound requests, binds identity and intent to enterprise policy, applies human authority requirements when configured, and returns an enforceable outcome before permitted execution. The same workflow records evidence so operators can reconstruct what was decided and why.
Governed workloads traverse CGOS before reaching approved execution surfaces. Each layer contributes inputs required by downstream controls and evidence capture.
The runtime control loop
- 1
Ingress
An application, agent runtime, or connector sends an AI-bound request into a governed gateway or control point
- 2
Context binding
Identity, organization/tenant scope, intent classification, and relevant policy sets are attached
- 3
Policy & authority evaluation
Deterministic policy evaluation and authority checks determine whether the action may proceed
- 4
Human authority (when required)
Elevated-risk actions can require human approval before proof and callback to the external system
- 5
Execution boundary
Only authorized outcomes proceed on the governed path; disallowed actions are blocked or constrained
- 6
Evidence
Decision lineage is retained for audit, operator review, and governance replay workflows
How agent and tool governance fits
Autonomous agents often select tools dynamically. Design-time approval of an agent does not automatically authorize every tool proposal at runtime. On governed trajectories, CGOS is designed to evaluate tool proposals as first-class decisions.
- Authorize tool proposals per step where the pathway is integrated
- Apply human authority for elevated-risk actions
- Keep unmanaged side-channel API keys outside the governed claim
Pre-execution evaluation
Each tool call is a distinct governance decision. Session-level or prompt-level approval does not substitute for per-step authorization before tool execution.
Data pathway and boundary controls
Where AI Data Governance and boundary controls are configured, CGOS can constrain what data is authorized for AI pathways and how egress is handled before provider interaction. This is pathway governance—not a claim to catalog every enterprise data asset.
BLOCK, QUARANTINE, and REQUIRE_APPROVAL prevent provider egress. Applies to CGOS AI Gateway traffic — not out-of-band consumer AI use.
Evidence after the decision
Governance without reconstructable evidence becomes anecdote. CGOS is designed to retain decision context, authority outcomes, and control results so enterprises can support audit review and governance replay on governed pathways.
Deployment and scope honesty
How CGOS works in your estate depends on where the control plane is placed and which pathways are integrated. SaaS, private cloud, hybrid, and more constrained deployments have different prerequisites. Traffic that never enters the governed path is outside that enforcement scope.
- Verify the actual enforcement point in a configuration-specific review
- Test unavailable-approver, missing-policy, and provider-failure behavior
- Separate implemented capabilities from demos and roadmap items during procurement
Frequently asked questions
Does NerveMind CGOS execute my business transactions?
CGOS governs and authorizes. Business execution typically remains in the customer’s external systems after policy, human approval if required, and proof issuance on those workflows.
What if a request bypasses the gateway?
Unmanaged paths are outside the governed claim. Closing side channels is part of enterprise integration and evaluation—not something a control plane can magically cover without traffic routing.
Is this the same as logging prompts?
No. Logging can support investigation after the fact. CGOS is designed to evaluate and decide before execution on integrated pathways, then retain governance evidence of that decision.
